Sires Used at Leonard Limousin

For decades, the foundation of our breeding program has been based on the genetics of proven performance sires, and to keep our program moving forward, each year we also test young, promising bulls. We have built a cow herd proven to shine in the economically important traits. Great Limousin bulls of proven worth that have left a mark on our program are Polled Pension, Polled Hawkeye, Extra Spectacular, Wulf’s Guardian, Beefmaster, and the great one, Sooner Jr. Calving ease bulls who have set the standard for the breed for nearly 30 years have long been an integral part of our replacement heifer breeding program producing light birthweights, trouble-free calving, and high maternal value replacements while maintaining performance and beautiful dispostions. We are continually researching and incorporating the greatest, high-performance genetics, including Bullion, Pistol Pete, Secret Weapon, Annapolis, Wulf’s Titus and Lodestar. And we are very excited to add Jock 9W and Red Dirt 118Y to the bull battery in 2012, with semen available in spring 2013. Our heifer breeding program has incorporated the proven AI genetics of Tow Truck along with our own LLR 606, a phenomenal calving-ease sire.

Growth and efficiency have been the driving forces in our Angus herd as well, with the genetics of Jetliner, Discovery, Mainline, New Standard, and our own LR Champ serving as the foundation of our Angus breeding program. Home-raised LR 840 is seeing extensive use on Angus heifers and Limousin daughters of LLR 606 to produce highly predictable calving ease Lim-Flex bulls.
Red Dirt

AUTO Red Dirt 118Y is the homozygous polled son of MAGS Payday out of EXLR Luvly, a Carrousels Pure Power daughter. We are seeing more and more interest again in red bulls. There are not a lot of truly high-performing, homo-polled bulls out there with low birthweight and good docility and scrotal. But that's exactly what Red Dirt has. We are excited to add him to the bull battery this year and we can't wait to see the calves out of this powerhouse. Come on out to the farm and have a look. Semen available spring 2013.

Jock 9W

RR Mr. Jock 9W, born in 2009, is the polled son of HUNT Mr. Jock 44J and a JCL Lodestar 27L daughter. We were looking for a growthy meatwagon with great EPDs, and a good attitude and scrotal and we found him up in Alberta, Canada. He's an Iowa resident now and and we invite you to come to the farm and take a look for yourself. Semen available spring 2013.

Bullion

Bullion is the 2009 polled son of JCL Lodestar 27L and out of a Master Brun Redwood 035J daughter. We've been excited about Bullion from the first time we saw him. This young sire will see heavy use now that he has proven himself to be among the greatest of the performance bulls ever produced in the Limousin breed. Check out his EPDs and you'll be impressed. Come out to the farm and see him and his calves and you'll be WOWed. Semen available spring 2013.

Pistol Pete

Pistol Pete, pictured here in April 2008, is the homozygous polled son of AUTO Black Dakota and out of a First Choice daughter who is double bred to Wulf's Quarterback from the great Cookie-Sable cow family. He was born in 2004 and we purchased this Iowa Beef Expo standout in 2006. Pistol Pete has a big growth EPD and the sweetest disposition you can imagine. He is deep and massive in muscle with the extra length so often needed in today's cattle. He's very good structurally with excellent big foot and leg structure. His calves exhibit explosive growth and good temperaments.

SBVL Beefmaster

Beefmaster, pictured here as a 10-month-old, served Leonard Limousin well until his death after a fall in 2004. We purchased this polled, black meathouse in 1998 for $28,500, the high-selling Limousin bull at the Iowa Beef Expo that year. Beefmaster puts big loin-eye and extra performance in his calves. He passes his agreeable disposition on to his calves and we're seeing very large testicle size in his sons.

Sooner Jr.

Our own Sooner Jr. was purchased in 1978 for $150,000. This son of Sooner served as senior herd sire for years at our place, due to his remarkable performance, longevity, structural correctness and the sweetest disposition you'd ever hope for. Daughters of his just don't miss — still producing rock-solid calves at 15 and 16 years of age. Daughters, granddaughters and on down the line populate the herd today. Semen available for $20.

LLR Polled Pension

This home-raised 1989 son of Polled Pack Leader was sure good to our breeding program over the years. One of the most impressive-looking sires to ever grace our pastures, he added pounds, eye appeal and scrotal dimension to his bull calves. His virility impressed all who saw him from the Denver Stock Show to our pastures during his tenure as senior herd sire. He was the high-selling bull in the yards in Denver in 1990. The highest weaning weight heifer we’ve ever had, at 842 adj. 205-day wt., was raised by a Pension daughter in 2012. Pension weighed 2,700 lbs. and was still actively breeding in the pasture at 9 years of age. He's gone, but not forgotten.

RLJB Extra Spectacular

This polled, black 1993 son of Texs Ranger Primo and HC Extraordinary was the high-selling bull in Denver in 1994 as a coming yearling, at $42,500. We were looking for the biggest-butted bull we could find at the time and we found it in Extra Spectacular. He is gone and the semen has all been used, but his calving ease and maternal strengths show up in our cow herd today in his grand and great-grand daughters.
